In this article I intend to show that the "question and answer logic" proposed by Collingwood in this autobiography should be interpreted as a historical methodology. I criticise both the logical and the hermeneutical interpretations because I think that they cannot display all the implications that this logic has for the historical knowledge as Collingwood understood it. The question and answer logic has a full meaning only if it is related to the Collingwoodian thesis about re-enactment and evidence.
